You will no longer receive pesky App Invites from Facebook friends luring you to Candy Crush or Farmville. Facebook has finally decided to retire the feature that almost an entire generation grew up with.
In a recent post about changes in its Developer offerings kit, Facebook’s Ming Li said “App Invites will no longer be supported starting with Facebook SDK version 4.28 and above.”
While the new Facebook Developer kit will not support App Invites, they will be phased out of exiting apps too by February 2018.
Facebook has been gradually lessening the availability of App Invites by making them available only on mobile for new games, in addition to providing options to block invites from various apps.
Send and Follow buttons are also being phased out in favour of the Share and Like buttons, respectively.
In the post, Li also shared some other important changes to the developer kit, including –
- edge.create and edge.remove JS SDK Events: These Events will no longer be accessible. As an alternative, developers can use Webhooks and be notified every time someone likes one of their Facebook Pages.
- Native Like Button: The Native Like Button, designed for mobile apps, will no longer be supported starting with Facebook SDK version 4.28 and above, and will be phased out completely by next year.
- Sharing Insights: The Sharing Insights link and tab from Facebook Analytics will be removed by February 2018.
