With the world going into lock down, it will see more than twice as much video-chatting activity on WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger as it did a year earlier.
India to introduce e-commerce regulator
In order to make platforms such as Amazon and Flipkart more accountable and turn over information swiftly, India has planned an e-commerce regulator. The newly created regulator will be empowered to seek any information from companies to enforce the new policy and even other Indian laws aimed at protecting consumers or ensuring fair competition on e-commerce.
LinkedIn announces Conversation Ads
It uses a messaging-based ad format. As people are spending more time on mobile messaging apps these days, this new marketing solution allows marketers to reach customers where they spend their time. Conversation Ads lets marketers create full-funnel campaigns with multiple customized calls-to-action, like product education, webinar sign-ups, and ebook downloads.
Google Translate transcribes audio from 8 languages
Added as a new feature, Google Translate is able to transcribe audio from Hindi, English, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Thai. However, the audio has to be live. Google said that as of now, the feature will work best in a quiet environment with one person speaking at a time.
Digital payments slip by 30% thanks to Covid-19 curbs
With shops, travel, going out for movies and dinner on hold for the foreseeable future, India’s fast growing digital payments sector has taken a hit. There has been a decline of 30% by virtue of the Coronavirus. Online transactions or payments which are digitally checked out, have come under scanner due to travel restrictions and slump in miscellaneous spends.
Flipkart introduces Ideas feed for shoppers
Close on the heels of Instagram shopping, Flipkart’s Ideas feed is customised to the users taste. It has articles, videos and photos from publishers and influencers encouraging users to indulge. The feed hosts content from brands and influencers, and will be available under 14 key interest areas, including fashion, health and fitness, gadgets, food and nutrition, home and living, and so on. Flipkart ‘Ideas’ will help bring the next 200 million consumers (from Tier II and Tier III cities) online.

Discovery has joined the OTT market and aims to make the unscripted space, their niche . The app has been curated specifically for the Indian audience.
