Reddit questions AI Overviews trade-off as search referrals turn choppy
CEO Steve Huffman said the platform is trying to balance Google’s use of Reddit conversations in AI answers with discovery and traffic flowing back to Reddit
Reddit is looking for a more balanced arrangement with Google as AI Overviews increasingly use material from online communities to answer queries without requiring users to visit the original discussion.
Speaking during Reddit’s second-quarter earnings call, Chief Executive Officer Steve Huffman said the companies were “still looking for that win-win” as they worked through how Reddit’s content appears across Google’s artificial intelligence products.
Reddit’s archive of product advice, personal experiences and unfiltered discussion makes it valuable to AI-powered search. At the same time, an answer assembled directly on Google can remove the need to open the Reddit threads from which that information was drawn.
SEBI is using AI to monitor social media for fraud
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is using an AI system which scans public social media content for fraudulent investment claims. The system also detects unregistered advice and impersonation of regulated entities. SEBI disclosed this in its Annual Report 2025-26.
The regulator said Project SUDARSAN became operational in November 2025. It has identified more than 20,000 instances of fraudulent content and posts on social media.
How SUDARSAN Works: SUDARSAN stands for Surveillance of Unauthorized Digital Activity via Real-time Scanner for Anti-fraud. It is an AI powered intelligence system that monitors publicly available videos, messages, images and advertisements. The system scans content across major social media platforms.
SEBI says the system uses multimodal AI to analyse speech, visuals, regional-language content and the context in which claims are made. It combines this information with behavioural and regulatory parameters, assigns risk scores and produces alerts for further scrutiny.
80.7% of Indian brands yet to achieve high AI visibility
80.7% of brands operating in the Indian market are yet to achieve High AI Visibility, according to The State of AI Discovery in India (Q1 FY2026–27), the inaugural SearchScore.AI Discovery Index released by DareAISearch.
The benchmark study analysed 2,981 brands across 15+ industries using 59,620 AI prompts to understand how brands are discovered, cited and recommended across leading AI-powered search platforms, including ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. The report found that only 19.3% of brands currently achieve High AI Visibility, while 80.7% remain below the benchmark, highlighting a significant opportunity for businesses as consumers increasingly rely on AI to compare products, evaluate services and recommend brands before making purchase decisions.
The findings reflect a broader shift from traditional search to AI-powered discovery, where AI is evolving from an information retrieval tool into a trusted decision-making layer. As a result, AI Visibility is emerging as a critical business metric alongside traditional search performance and brand awareness.
- Only 19.3% of brands currently achieve High AI Visibility.
- AI recommendations are increasingly concentrated among stronger brands.
- Trusted digital ecosystems play a growing role in shaping AI recommendations.
- AI Visibility is not one-size-fits-all and varies significantly across industries.
- AI Visibility is emerging as a strategic business metric.
As AI-led attacks multiply, OpenAI launches a new cyber model
Every day seems to brings fresh news of an AI agent going “rogue.” Whether that’s compromising Hugging Face, hacking a gym website, or creating its own fake profiles to socially engineer an intrusion, AI models are increasingly behaving like bad actors.
So, the AI labs that make the models doing the hacking are expanding their cyber protection offerings. This week, OpenAI announced an expansion of Daybreak, its cyber defense service which it launched earlier this year, not long after Anthropic released its cyber-focused model Mythos.
Daybreak is a service that bundles access to models, tools and workflows for defenders. The expansion includes access to a brand new cyber-focused model designed for defensive work.
Kitesurf, a browser built for AI agents
Cloudflare is the latest company to join the race to build a new web browser. But instead of pitching a Chrome alternative to consumers, the internet infrastructure provider launched Kitesurf, a cloud-hosted browser designed specifically for AI agents.
AI software is evolving from chatbots that answer questions to agents that can complete tasks on users’ behalf. Browsers are a critical part of this transition, as they’ll need to navigate the web and use websites, as humans do.
Unlike traditional web browsers built for humans, a browser built for AI agents doesn’t care about visual elements, like themes, tabs, or browser extensions, Cloudflare explained in its announcement. A browser designed for AI agents needs to manage context windows, performance, token costs, and scalability. It also faces a different threat model because an AI browser could be subject to vulnerabilities like prompt injection attacks and more, the company noted.
With Kitesurf, AI developers will be able to build software that can navigate websites, fill out forms, and complete other browser-based tasks, without having to build their own browser software.
ChatGPT free users now get unlimited text chats
Plus, they’re getting a model upgrade to GPT-5.6 Luna.
Free ChatGPT users now have access to an upgraded model and will soon get free unlimited text chats. (OpenAI)
OpenAI is bringing an improved experience to free users today, offering unlimited text-based chats and making its GPT-5.6 Luna model the default for free users. It has also added a new “Think” button that lets free users “access higher reasoning for harder questions.” Both changes come shortly after OpenAI revealed that its models now have one billion active users.
The changes apply to both ChatGPT Free and Go users, with the 5.6 Luna model going live this week. Unlimited text chats and the Think button are set to arrive next week, OpenAI says. And while text chats will now be unlimited, OpenAI says limits are still in place for file uploads, images and other tools.
OpenAI first launched its GPT-5.6 model family in preview in June, noting that it was its most affordable model with “strong” capabilities. Two other models, Sol and Terra, are more capable but cost more to run. In its latest blog post announcing changes for free users, OpenAI says that factual errors in responses are 62% less common with Luna and 68% less common with Sol than with GPT-5.5 Instant.
Virality Is Not a Strategy. New Research Puts 3 Ceilings on It
New WARC research finds social-first marketing hits three ceilings, and broad emotional campaigns beat broad social by 2.1x on brand and business impact.
Key Takeaways:
- New WARC research finds social-first marketing runs into three structural ceilings that more content and more paid media cannot break through.
- Broad emotional campaigns outperform broad social campaigns by 2.1x on brand and business impact, with nearly four times the long-term effect.
- Targeted social campaigns beat targeted emotional ones by 2.4x, but neither delivers strong long-term effects when narrowly aimed.
Marketers have spent three years being told to move budget towards social and creators, and most have. Now comes a piece of research arguing that social-first marketing has a hard limit built into it, and putting numbers on where that limit sits. WARC published The Pace Principle 2.0 – From social sprint to sustained growth in early August 2026, a follow-up to last year’s report, and its central finding is uncomfortable for anyone who has quietly rebuilt a media plan around feeds.
“Virality is not a strategy, it’s an unpredictable outcome for growth,” says Rica Facundo, managing editor at WARC APAC and the report’s author. That line has travelled further than the data behind it, so it is worth going through what the study actually measured.
What the social-first marketing study looked at
The analysis covers 210 advertising effectiveness case studies held in WARC’s database, drawn from South East Asia, Greater China and India, supplemented by a questionnaire completed by the authors of those cases. WARC argues the implications are global. The evidence base is Asian, which is worth stating plainly, though it also means the findings come from the markets where social commerce and creator marketing are furthest ahead rather than furthest behind.
