YouTube tests conversational AI tool on smart TVs and streaming devices

YouTube is testing its conversational AI tool on smart TVs, gaming consoles and other streaming devices.

The eligible users are expected to be able to access the feature while watching a video by selecting the ‘Ask’ button, which opens the AI tool. Viewers can choose from suggested prompts or use a microphone button to ask questions with their voice.

On TV remotes equipped with a microphone button, users can press the button to activate the tool and ask questions. For example, a viewer might ask, “What ingredients are they using for this recipe?” or “What’s the story behind this song’s lyrics?”

Microdrama apps stand out on mobile

Last year, mobile users spent 5.78 billion more hours on short drama apps compared to the previous year, according to Sensor Tower data.

Apps focused around micro and short dramas, such as ReelShort, saw in-app revenue jump 115% last year.

The mobile landscape and market continues to develop, with monetization, generative AI and shifts in attention changing how consumers interact with apps and content. While social media and AI apps continue to dominate the landscape, short drama apps were a breakout category in 2025, with time spent growing 5.78 billion hours year over year, according to Sensor Tower data.

In terms of downloads, the short drama app category saw the second highest growth, increasing by 1.66 billion downloads YoY. The upswing could be attributed to a successful monetization strategy, according to Sensor Tower reports.

44% of ChatGPT citations come from the first third of content

ChatGPT pulls most from early sections, favoring direct definitions, balanced tone, and dense entities, new research finds.

ChatGPT heavily favors the top of content when selecting citations, according to an analysis of 1.2 million AI answers and 18,012 verified citations by Kevin Indig, Growth Advisor.

Why we care. Traditional search rewarded depth and delayed payoff. AI favors immediate classification — clear entities and direct answers up front. If your substance isn’t surfaced early, it’s less likely to appear in AI answers.

Walmart says AI users build 35% bigger baskets than others

Walmart customers who use the company’s Sparky AI-powered shopping assistant have an order value that’s about 35% higher than those who don’t, newly appointed Walmart CEO John Furner said in the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call Thursday morning.

Sparky is a shopping assistant housed in the “Ask Sparky” button marked by a smiley face in the Walmart app. As the company described in a news release when it launched in June, the assistant helps customers find items, synthesize reviews and prepare for special occasions, such as by answering what sports teams are playing that night or checking the weather at the beach they’re headed to. The company also launched an assistant for merchants called Wally last March.

Centre Notifies IT Rules Amendment: 3-Hour Takedown Deadline for AI Content

The Indian government has notified amendments to the Information Technology (IT) Rules, 2021. Effective February 20, 2026 the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Amendment Rules, 2026 introduce timelines for content removal and mandate labelling of AI-generated content, marking a shift in how digital platforms operate in India.

Understanding the IT Rules Amendment

The Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Amendment Rules, 2026 notified by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology introduces a framework to tackle the proliferation of synthetically generated media. Under the Information Technology Act, 2000, these amendments aim to curb misinformation, protect user dignity, and strengthen platform accountability in an era dominated by generative artificial intelligence.

The amendments define “synthetically generated information” as audio, visual, or audio-visual content created or modified using computer resources in a manner that appears real or authentic. This legal definition brings clarity to what constitutes AI-generated content and places it within the regulatory ambit of the IT Act.

Need to Curb Deepfakes and Synthetic Content

The amendments come in response to growing concerns over the misuse of AI-generated content. India has witnessed several incidents where deepfakes have been used to create non-consensual intimate imagery, spread misinformation during elections, and facilitate financial fraud through voice cloning.
