Shopping Without Searching: A Shift Toward Conversational Commerce
New Delhi [India], May 9: A quiet update just signaled one of the most significant changes in digital commerce to date. Shopify’s native integration into ChatGPT is not just a product enhancement. It is a fundamental reimagining of the e-commerce journey. The digital shelf has been reshaped, and brands that understand this early will define the next phase of consumer behavior.
From Search to Suggestion to Sale in One Flow
Until now, online shopping began with a search. Today, it increasingly starts with a conversation. With this update, ChatGPT can now recommend products and complete purchases within the same interaction. There is no need to switch tabs or follow redirected links. Discovery and checkout have merged into a seamless experience.
This change removes two of the biggest friction points in online buying: decision fatigue and delayed intent. Products are no longer simply browsed. They are presented in context, aligned with user needs, and available for immediate purchase. In a platform that sees billions of monthly interactions, this is not a fringe use case. It is quickly becoming the norm.
Google Launches AI-Based 3D Asset Generation for Shopping Listings
Google’s looking to make it easier to replicate the in-store shopping experience online, via a new, AI-based system that simplifies 3D object capture, enabling you to better showcase your products within Google’s shopping listings.
As explained by Google:
“We’ve developed new generative AI techniques to create high quality and shoppable 3D product visualizations from as few as three product images […] This technology is already enabling the generation of interactive 3D views for a wide range of product categories on Google Shopping.”
Meta AssetGen 2.0: The Future of 3D Asset Creation is Here
The world of digital content is constantly evolving. We’ve seen images and videos transform with AI. Now, a new frontier is opening up: 3D content creation. Meta is at forefront of this change, introducing Meta AssetGen 2.0, an AI foundation model. This technology is set to redefine how we create and interact with 3D worlds.
The demand for immersive 3D experiences is growing rapidly. From virtual reality environments to complex game designs, high-quality 3D assets are crucial. However, creating these assets has traditionally been a time-consuming and complex process. Meta AssetGen 2.0 aims to simplify this, making 3D creation more accessible than ever.
Key Takeaways from Meta AssetGen 2.0:
-
Meta AssetGen 2.0 is a new AI model that creates high-quality 3D assets from text or image prompts.
-
It uses a two-model system: one for generating detailed 3D meshes and another (TextureGen) for high-resolution texturing.
-
Key advancements include a single-stage 3D diffusion model for geometry and improved texture consistency and resolution.
-
AssetGen 2.0 will be rolled out to Horizon creators later this year and aims to democratize 3D content creation.
50% of tech professionals now receiving AI training at work
On National Technology Day, a new survey by Naukri reveals that AI upskilling is becoming mainstream in India’s tech industry, with 50% of technology professionals now receiving some form of AI training at work.
The survey, which collected responses from over 16,000 tech professionals across industries, shows that while self-learning remains a key method, there is a clear rise in structured training initiatives by employers.
AI upskilling gains momentum at the workplace
Half the professionals surveyed reported receiving AI training support from their current employers, with one-third confirming active and ongoing training programs.
Notably, more than half of freshers said they have either completed foundational training or are undergoing full-fledged AI modules, indicating early investments by companies.
This trend is most visible in established tech hubs like Bengaluru and Gurgaon, where 33% of professionals confirmed that their organizations are actively training them on AI tools.
The IT and software services sector, where rapid technological change is part of daily operations, shows a higher rate of structured upskilling compared to non-IT sectors.
Amazon Prime to introduce ads in India
Amazon is set to introduce advertisements on Prime Video in India starting June 17, 2025, marking a significant shift in the platform’s viewing experience. This move aligns with the company’s global strategy to monetise its streaming service through ad-supported content and innovative ad formats.
In a communication to Indian subscribers, Amazon explained that limited advertisements will now appear during films and TV shows on Prime Video. The company said the decision would help it continue investing in high-quality content while keeping the core subscription price unchanged. However, users seeking an uninterrupted experience can opt for a new ad-free upgrade, available at ?129 per month or ?699 annually, in addition to the existing Prime membership.
Notably, Amazon assured users that ad loads will be “meaningfully lower” than those on traditional TV or other streaming platforms. Prime Lite subscribers, who already experience ad-supported streaming, will not be affected by this change.
This development follows Amazon’s earlier rollout of ads in markets such as the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Mexico, and parts of Europe. With India now included, the e-commerce giant is reinforcing its strategy to generate revenue from its vast Prime Video audience.
In tandem with the expansion of ad-supported content, Amazon Ads also announced three new connected TV (CTV) ad formats ahead of its 2025 upfront presentation.
Subreddits Will Replace AI Search in the Future
Reddit’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Steven Huffman, is pitching subreddits as an alternative to artificial intelligence (AI) search results. During the company’s first quarter 2025 (Q1 2025) earnings conference call, he said, “So in the same way that Reddit for the last decade has been an alternative to social media –social media being performative and manicured, and Reddit being the opposite – Reddit communities and conversations will be an alternative to AI search answers.”
He also revealed that Reddit is working to further integrate its AI chatbot, Reddit Answers, into the platform’s search feature.
Why it matters?
Integration of AI into the platform’s search feature signals that the company wishes to challenge Google’s monopoly in the search engine domain. Huffman, during the call, said that the search feature will aim at helping visitors, who come from external searches, find the answers posted by Reddit users. For reference, the community-based platform launched the beta version of Reddit Answers in December 2024.
That’s it today.
