Microsoft Unveils Major Copilot Upgrade: How Might it Empower Your Business?
Microsoft has revealed a major new Copilot upgrade with several compelling enterprise-centric applications.
Unveiled as part of Microsoft’s 50th-anniversary event, the newly enhanced Copilot includes features such as advanced memory and web-based action capabilities, camera and screen analysis, and more. This raft of new capabilities intends to bring Copilot’s feature set in line with other high-profile, sophisticated competitors like Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
While the update is generally for Microsoft’s consumer-focused Copilot rather than its business-specific Copilot 365 sister product, there are myriad opportunities to leverage the tool to securely boost productivity and collaboration across the enterprise.
Mustafa Suleyman, Executive Vice President and CEO of Microsoft AI, wrote in an accompanying blog:
Copilot will understand you in the context of your life, and show up, on your terms, in the right way at the right time. This is far richer, more dynamic, supportive and emergent than any software we’ve seen before. It’s a new kind of relationship with technology, a new era.”
Spotify debuts generative AI tools & new ad exchange platform
Spotify has announced a series of updates to its advertising business, including the launch of generative AI-powered tools and a new programmatic advertising exchange, during an event held on Thursday in New York City.
A key highlight was the introduction of the ‘Spotify Ad Exchange (SAX),’ a programmatic offering that enables advertisers to reach Spotify’s logged-in users via real-time auctions. The company confirmed that SAX will provide full addressability and measurement capabilities across a range of ad formats.
The platform has partnered with major demand-side platforms (DSPs) to support SAX, including Google’s Display & Video 360 and Magnite. Additional integrations with Yahoo DSP, Adform, and others are expected to follow. The Trade Desk is also supported.
Amazon says its AI video model can now generate minutes-long clips
Amazon has upgraded its AI video model, Nova Reel, with the ability to generate videos up to two minutes in length.
Nova Reel, announced in December 2024, was Amazon’s first foray into the generative video space. It competes with models from OpenAI, Google, and others in what’s fast becoming a crowded market.
The latest Nova Reel, Nova Reel 1.1, can generate “multi-shot” videos with “consistent style” across shots, explained AWS developer advocate Elizabeth Fuentes in a blog post. Users can provide a prompt up to 4,000 characters long to generate up to a two-minute video composed of six-second shots.
Nova Reel 1.1 also introduces a new mode called “Multishot Manual.” In this mode, the model can reference an image along with a prompt to offer more control over a video shot’s composition. According to Fuentes, given a 1280 x 720-resolution image and 512-maximum-character prompt, Multishot Manual can generate videos containing up to 20 shots.
Banks to have ‘bank.in’ internet domain name, non-banks ‘fin.in’
In order to check cyber security threats, the Reserve Bank on Friday (February 7, 2025) decided that Indian banks will have exclusive internet domain name ‘bank.in’ and non-bank financial entities ‘fin.in’.
Unveiling the last bi-monthly monetary policy of this fiscal year, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said registrations for ‘bank.in’ will commence from April 2025, and going forward ‘fin.in’ will be introduced.
The decision is aimed at enhancing trust in the financial sector, he said adding the increased instances of fraud in digital payments are a significant concern.
“To combat the same, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is introducing the ‘bank.in’ exclusive Internet Domain for Indian banks,” he said.
The initiative aims to reduce cyber security threats and malicious activities like phishing, and streamline secure financial services, thereby enhancing trust in digital banking and payment services.
The Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) will act as the exclusive registrar.
Google’s experimental AI Mode can now analyse and questions about images
Last month, Google introduced a new experimental “AI Mode” in Search, which it says lets users ask complex, multi-part queries and “get help with even your toughest questions.” For those wondering, this is similar to ChatGPT’s and Perplexity AI’s powered search results.
Now, Google has announced that it is bringing multimodal capabilities to AI Mode chatbot, enabling users to upload existing images or capture a new photo to ask questions about it. In a blog post, the tech giant said the new functionality “can understand the entire scene in an image, including the context of how objects relate to one another and their unique materials, colors, shapes and arrangements.”
