Zepto Shifts to Marketplace Model, Sets Up New Entity

Quick commerce company Zepto has set up a new entity Zepto Marketplace to rejig its operations from a B2B model to a marketplace model, according to people in the know.

Zepto Marketplace was registered in October 2024, and the company’s operations will soon switch to the new model once the operational and regulatory nitty-gritty are sorted out, sources said.

A mail query sent to the company did not elicit any response.

The shift, according to sources, will enable Zepto to have a greater hold on quality control and service.

Zepto is also set to soon launch “Thor”-a SaaS inventory management platform to further streamline operations, they added.

Meta Opens Floodgates For AI-Generated Accounts

AI-generated user accounts are flooding Instagram and Facebook, according to their parent company, Meta. The company is rolling out a wide array of AI products, including a tool that helps users create AI characters on Instagram and Facebook. Meta hopes to attract a younger audience, in a face-off with key competitors like TikTok and Snapchat. “We expect these AIs to actually exist on our platforms in the same way that [human] accounts do,” Connor Hayes, vice president of product for generative AI at Meta, told the London’s Financial Times. The new developments from Meta join an online tool called AI Studio, launched in July to allow users to make their own chatbots. You can clone yourself, or create an artificial persona online, using text-to-video software. Building an artificial presence has never been easier.

OpenAI’s ambitious leap toward superintelligence

OpenAI is setting its sights on developing superintelligent AI systems that far exceed human capabilities in virtually every domain, from scientific discovery to social interaction, according to CEO Sam Altman. In a recent blog post, Altman outlined the ambitious vision for a future where AI could drive innovation and progress at an unprecedented pace. With superintelligent tools, scientific discovery could leap forward in ways we cannot achieve alone, he wrote.

Though the concept of superintelligence often feels like the stuff of science fiction, Altman expressed confidence that the technology would soon become a tangible reality. In the coming years, the world will recognize what they see now: that the potential for superintelligence requires extreme caution, yet it offers vast opportunities for empowerment, he stated, acknowledging that OpenAI’s role extends beyond that of a typical company due to the transformative nature of its work.

In previous statements, OpenAI has called for robust public oversight to govern superintelligent systems. The company has advocated for a global framework to regulate AI, emphasizing the need for international cooperation in setting safety standards while ensuring that less advanced AI technologies remain subject to proportionate regulation.
