Meta’s latest update is a devastating blow to advertisers
On January 31, 2025, Meta will deliver another blow to advertisers.
Talk about a happy new year.
Meta has already started eliminating the ability to set new detailed targeting exclusions as of July 15, 2024. However, beginning Jan. 31, existing campaigns using these exclusions will stop delivering altogether.
Imagine running ads with no way to exclude audiences that will not buy.
This change feels like yet another chapter in Meta’s ongoing playbook of: “Give me your credit card info, and trust me, bro.”
Perplexity AI one of the best AI-powered search engines
Picture an AI-powered search engine that brings some of the most valuable research papers right under your finger tips. In my opinion, Perplexity AI is one of the best AI-powered search engines that has been designed specifically to help journalists who want to stay abreast with the most accurate and well-sourced information. A caveat here would be that this is not your fancy AI mate that can spin an image under 10 seconds. Based on my experience, I feel the makers of Perplexity AI have put a lot of thought into building this search engine that offers real-time data retrieval, which is crucial to any journalist who wants to stay updated with the latest news and recent developments. What particularly caught my attention is that unlike the usual search engines, Perplexity delivers concise, context-aware answers with citation. This allows you to instantly verify the sources of information.
The 2025 rollout of Digital Radio
India is likely to witness the rollout of digital radio (for the FM band) in 2025. Marking a significant step towards modernising the radio industry and optimising spectrum efficiency, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has announced plans to roll out digital FM radio broadcasting in 13 major cities nationwide, over the next few months.
With proper implementation, digital broadcasting enables radio stations to reach deeper into local markets with compelling new content, expanded audio and data services, and multimedia formats.
While the government initiative aims to enhance broadcast quality and support the growth of the radio industry, the announcement adds to the worry of already-troubled radio players.
Sunil Kumaran, chief operating officer, Big FM tells Storyboard18 that India’s radio industry faces major hurdles in going digital, including high costs, limited access to digital radios, regulatory uncertainty, and competition from streaming platforms.
Instagram’s AI editing tools will reimagine your videos
Instagram is planning to introduce a generative AI editing feature next year that will allow users to “change nearly any aspect of your videos.” The tech is powered by Meta’s Movie Gen AI model according to a teaser posted by Instagram head Adam Mosseri, and aims to provide creators with more tools to help transform their content and bring their ideas to life without extensive video editing or manipulation skills.
Mosseri says the feature can make adjustments using a “simple text prompt.” The announcement video includes previews of early research AI models that change Mosseri’s outfit, background environments, and even his overall appearance — in one scene transforming him into a felt puppet. Other changes are more subtle, such as adding new objects to the existing background or a gold chain around Mosseri’s neck without altering the rest of his clothing.
Swiggy Instamart 2024 trends
In the rapidly evolving world of online shopping, fast delivery of groceries and everyday essentials has become a hallmark of the retail experience. Swiggy Instamart’s latest report highlights how consumer shopping habits have evolved in 2024.

In its blogpost, Swiggy noted that 1 in every 140 orders included a sexual wellness product, with Bengaluru emerging as the top spender on condoms in 2024.
The data also pointed to late-night shopping sprees, with the peak time for stealthy orders recorded between 10 pm and 11 pm. It said that during this time, customers’ most popular choices included items like masala-flavoured chips, Kurkure and flavoured condoms. The top cities for these secretive night purchases were Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru.
Indian Govt Moves to Ban Unregulated Lending Amid Rising App Scams
The Ministry of Finance has proposed a draft bill to ban unregulated lending practices, particularly targeting digital lending platforms. Amongst various provisions, it authorises police to conduct warrantless searches, seize assets, and freeze accounts tied to illegal activities. Penalties include significant fines and prison sentences.
The bill also creates a central database of legitimate lenders that will enable public verification and reporting of illegal practices. The draft bill comes after a multitude of reports and increasing regulatory scrutiny about predatory digital lending apps, who trap borrowers in cycles of debt and often use criminal intimidation in order to recover loans. MediaNama journalist Sharveya Parasnis explains the bill and everything that led to it.
